Wedding Day - Family Dinner & Reception

The Family Dinner and Reception were just a lot of fun! After the Ring Ceremony, family members were invited to the dinner. The formal part of the day was done and now it was time to relax and have a good time.

These gals took care of the guest book - which was actually a calendar where the guests wrote their greetings on their birthdate.

Master of Ceremonies.

The bride insisted on glass cups and real utensils so there could be lots of clinking on the glasses. She said, "I want to kiss!!!" She had the MC announce that glass clinking is allowed and encouraged!

So they got to give lots of kisses!

There were four possible answers for each question: Richelle, Logan, Both, Neither

11) Who can wiggle their ears?

12) Who graduated from LC?

We had lots of laughs while discussing the answers! And it was fun for everyone to get to know the bride a groom a little better. The answers are:

1) Logan

2) Both (as children)

3) Logan - his arm in preschool

4) Richelle (Logan studied pottery!)

5) Both (Hawaiin and Meat Lovers)

6) Both - Chelle tried to do it but her dress was too snug!

7) Both (Logan in Football, Chelle in Softball)

9) Neither (Logan 3rd, Richelle 1st)

11) Logan (Chelle can wiggle her eyes)

After dessert, we had a toast from the Father of the Bride and a Response from the Groom.

We had about half an hour to clean up from the Family Dinner and prepare for the Reception. The dinner crew moved out and the reception crew moved in. A little more time would have been nice for the transition - remember that for next time! lol Young Women came and helped us too.

The food was all set up on the long table against the back wall on lovely platters and stands that we'd made (but had no time to take pictures here!)

We had three different drink dispensers for drinks in the three wedding colours - limeade, blueberry koolaid and water with lemon slices. The food, platters of veggies, meat, cheese and tons of squares, were all on the other end of the table. Looked very pretty!

Wedding Day - The Ring Ceremony

Chelle and Logan decided they wanted to have a Ring Ceremony as part of their wedding day. I'm so glad they did because, after the actual wedding in the temple, this was my second favourite part of the day.

As you came through the doors, the chalkboard I made from a cupboard door directed you which way to go.

Most of us had never been to a Ring Ceremony before so we didn't really know what to do. There weren't many guidelines out there so basically we could do whatever we wanted to. Some guidelines we did find though were to not make it look like a wedding, because the wedding had already taken place in the temple. So no bridesmaids walking in and following them down an aisle, etc. Chelle and Logan chose to have their Ring Ceremony in the Relief Society room because it's a pretty room and more intimate than in the gym.

This is what our bride and groom chose to do for their Ring Ceremony:

Logan's Bishop conducted.

Opening song was "I Am a Child of God" and some were asked to sing the descant part. It was so beautiful. {They had a little program printed out with the words of the songs on the back for those who weren't familiar with them.}

Logan's Grandpa said the Opening Prayer.

Then they had remarks from both their mothers. Logan's mom talked about him, and I talked about watching their courtship evolve and about what had happened that morning in the temple as they were sealed together forever.

Then we had a special musical number by Richie and his four brothers. Brent wrote an arrangement of "I Love to See the Temple" which they sang acappella. It was incredible!

Then there were remarks by Logan's Bishop,

and then came my favourite part . . .

. . . declarations by the Bride and Groom!

Chelle went first and read from her journal about some events from their courtship. She teared up {and so did everyone else!} while reading the special part about when her prayers were answered about whether she should marry Logan. And it was sweet to watch Logan comfort her!

Then Logan read the special words that he had written - wish I could remember them!

The Bishop talked briefly about rings . . .

. . . and then they exchanged their rings.

They exchanged a few hugs and kisses too.

We closed with the song "Families Can Be Together Forever" and Chelle's Grampa said the closing prayer.

I loved the Ring Ceremony because it was a special spiritual and yet fun time as we learned about Chelle and Logan and the beginning part of their eternity together. We laughed together and we cried together. And it was wonderful for everyone to hear about the importance of the temple and of prayers being answered. I loved it!!!

Wedding Day - The Temple

October 20, 2012 was a fantastic day - I absolutely loved it!!! And I think the bride and groom did too!

The day started early in the morning for some people - like the bride, her friend Angi (the hairdresser), Jaime (the photographer), and some sisters. I slept in as long as I could!

I like the multi-tasking bride - texting her almost husband, and eating breakfast, all while getting her hair done!

Good thing Angi used a ton of hairspray and bobby pins - the wind was going to be our biggest challenge!

Flower girls, Katia and Haylee, saying goodbye to the bride. Rich, Chelle and I needed to be at the temple an hour before the ceremony, so we left first. That's the wedding dress there on the back of the couch. Everyone else came later, in time to see them come out of the temple.

The next few hours were wonderful and I'll always remember them. We were about fifteen minutes late arriving at the temple and the poor groom was getting a little anxious. He seemed rather relieved when he saw Chelle! Even though we were a little late, the temple workers were completely calm and unrushed. They did the usual paperwork, checking the marriage license and everything. Then Chelle and I went off to the brides room - that gorgeous room with the big mirrors and pretty lights, and roses inlaid in the carpet and painted on the walls - such a happy room! Once she was all changed and ready to go and looking so beautiful and calm and happy, I went back down to the waiting room. I walked in and wow! Family!!! They were there - lots of family and loved ones. This is when my high water table kicked in and I lost it. I just felt so filled with joy at being able to be in the temple with these special people, who had all made sacrifices and special efforts to be with our family at this wonderful time. I found a scripture that described my feelings perfectly:

"And their hearts were swollen with joy, unto the gushing out of many tears" (3 Nephi 4:33)

And so I gushed!!! It was truly wonderful! Then the workers came and led our happy little group up to the sealing room, with the magnificent mirrors reflecting eternity. Once we were all settled, Chelle and Logan were brought in. The temple president spoke to them, and all of us, with wonderful words of wisdom and advice. Then the bride and groom knelt at the altar and were sealed together as husband and wife for time and all eternity. I loved the tender moment when Logan reached across and gently wiped a tear off Chelle's face with his thumb. And then they kissed!!! It was about then that I realized that, hey - we had a son!!! The newlyweds exchanged rings and then we all did a whole lot of hugging. Such a special, special time!

Then Chelle and I went back to the brides room to get her ready to go outside. She looked radiant. We were just chatting for awhile, all ready, but waiting on word that the groom was ready (he wore white in the temple and had to get changed into his suit). Eventually the word came, so I left first and went outside to the people waiting, while the bride and groom greeted each other.

Those in the wedding party were now pinning on corsages and boutonnieres, and finding bouquets. Everyone was gathered in the temple courtyard, getting their cameras ready and waiting for the bride and groom to come out . . .

. . . there they are!!!

They looked so happy!!!

It was so cute because we're all just watching them be in love, and snapping pictures, and then Mackenzie went running up to them. She had been so excited for this day and her "lellow pwitty dess" for so long. Logan scooped her up and she was in quite a few of their pictures!

Then we spent time taking a bunch of pictures and visiting and going into the Visitors Center from time to time to get warm. We'd been watching the weather forcast for days before the wedding, but it changed every day - from sun, to cloud, to rain, to snow. Even the night before it was calling for precipitation. But we got a beautiful sunny day, about 6 degrees. The wind sure made us feel cold though. I couldn't even take my jacket off for pictures. I don't know how Chelle lasted so long, although she did have a new husband she didn't mind snuggling up to!!!

I like what the wind is doing with our hair in this picture. Rich and I should have switched sides, then he could have been the wind block. My hair was constantly being plastered across my face. But wind or not, what a great looking family we have now!
